How Do You Plead?
Fans of Buddy and Julie Miller or Chip Taylor and Carrie Rodriguez will find much to admire in the union of Michael Weston King and Lou Dalgleish. With a raft of acclaimed albums already under his belt, King is well established as a fine songwriter in his own right, but here he’s harking back to the 60s and 70s in loving homage to Nashville/Bakersfield country radio – all tail fins, big hair, weeping steel guitars and cowboy boots – with Dalgleish playing a fine Tammy Wynette to his George Jones. There’s a rich seam of Everly Brothers classic country-pop running through songs like ‘By A Thread’ and Dalgleish’s ‘The Other Half’, while ‘Going Back To Memphis’ is surely a lost Glen Campbell greatest hit.
