Singer-songwriter Louise Jordan draws on classical, folk and theatrical music to create her self-penned compositions. Apart from writing much of her debut album, she’s also arranged, recorded and produced it. Not only that, but she plays all instruments (acoustic guitar, piano and cello) and sings on all tracks. An eclectic vocal, her pure madrigal tone has shades of Sandy Denny and Kate Bush. The contemporary ‘World Weary’, with its attractive guitar pattern and sympathetic cello, is an accessible opener, while ‘Lowlands Of Holland’ darkens the mood. Some tracks – especially the twee ‘Little Robin Redbreast’ and lightweight ‘Born To Wander’ – will not please all, but if traditional folk with a classical and theatrical tinge is your thing, it’s a winner.
